the Mingo-McEwen Fund was blessed with great weather for its 4th Annual Golf Tournament. By noon hour 155 golfers and 40 plus volunteers
were assembled and ready for the start of the day's festivities. Along with
the day of golf there were a few special holes, on the 1st hole was the
place to purchase raffle tickets and draw for prizes, the 5th hole had the closest to the
line (Chang Hua Hua was the closest), the
6th hole had
representatives from the Montreal Children’s Hospital and the 8th hole was the BMW
hole ( Kevin Quinn had the winning raffle ticket). Kym Rowan and family were stationed at the
10th hole welcoming the golfers and giving out a thank you gift, courtesy of Itech and The GreenTeam. The 11th hole was The Pubs 99
bottles of beer on the wall, the 14th had the Tooney toss( Michael
Fondecaro was the winner), the closest to the pin was on the 17th
hole( Kevin Figsby was closest) and at the 18th tee everyone had an opportunity to put their calculus
to work and guess how many golf balls were in the bottle (we had a tie
with Jim Botis and Patrick Guest being closest to the actual number of 158
golf balls) . Approximately 290 people attended the evening with the golfers' better halves joining them for the meal generously provided by Dagwoods. Bob McEwen and Andrew Leroux hosted the evening and announced the winners of the day’s events. The low score for the day was the team from Shawville with a score of (63) Ken Alexander, Jeff Russell, Ed Rusenstrom and Ryan Wood the most honest foursome with a score of (93) went to Steve George, Kendra Griffiths, Tracy Griffiths and Silvia Latour . Once the preliminaries were over an auction was held for some interesting items some of them were; a VCR went to Jeff Heseltine, Chinese tea set went to Wally Weir, a Sears dishwasher went to Alana Leroux, baked goods from Bob’s Mom went to Ron Deschènes, a Time Share anywhere in the world went to Dave Connell, a referees jersey signed by Pierre Champou plus two tickets to a Montreal Canadiens game, two rounds of golf and a visit in the referees room went to Greg Nigman, a hockey stick signed by the late Maurice Richard went to Josh Given, another stick signed by Vincent Lecalvier went to Cody Given, two handmade cabinets from Wayne Harris went to Dave Dunlop, a set of junior golf clubs plus a golf bag went to Ron Deschènes. When all the amounts were totaled up from the golf, the raffle and the auction the Mingo-McEwen Fund was able to hand out cheques to The Veterans Hospital of Ste. Anne de Bellevue for $2000.00, to The West Island Palliative Care Unit for $5000.00 and to The Montreal Children’s Hospital for $21,000.00. The total amount raised by the Mingo-McEwen Fund was $28,000.00. This more than surpasses what the Fund was able to raise last year and could not have been achieved without the generous support from the Fund's Sponsors and all the golfers' who attended this years Tournament.Thank you!!
